One thing I’ve learned, for sure, on the mission field, is that God always wins!

“The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8b

God has done amazing things again this year in Kenya, and has victoriously seen us through many things such as a historic presidential election that brought much unrest and trials, including the recent robbery at our Center in the Kibera slum. We’ve also seen Him bring more kids off of the street and continue to provide for the ones already going to school. We are very grateful for all that He has done for us and for what He has done for us through the love and support of His people. Thank you for sharing in this journey with us! Here is an update on recent happenings.

Ransacked, robbed and restored

On November 20th, following the Supreme Court of Kenya’s verdict regarding the recent presidential revote, our Center in Kibera was ransacked and robbed. it happened the day after the Washington Post published a photo & story of the upheaval taking place there, just near our Center. The political tension stems from questions of corruption surrounding the election and tribalism hinged to politics there. Unfortunately, in the midst of the protests people took advantage of the situation to loot businesses and our Center in the area. We praise God, though, that no one was hurt. We sent our kids away before the revote knowing that it might be unsafe for them there. The one man who stayed at the Center was at work when the thieves came, which is a blessing as many lost their lives that weekend and throughout the political crisis. We are very sad about the loss of lives, and those injured, displaced and robbed during the process.

Unfortunately, they took pretty much everything. Even stripped some of the electrical wires and took the kitchen sink tap. They took all of the kitchen wares, church equipment, and most of the furniture, but they did leave behind our sofa set and little Christmas tree, which is a good thing because we still planned to host many street kids there for a Christmas party on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas. But…

God wins!

“And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28

Within a couple of weeks we received enough in donations to restore the items that were stolen, since then we’ve been gradually replacing things and getting back into the Center. Life is coming back into it! On Dec. 26th we hosted the annual Boxing Day party for street kids there, with our friends from http://iamercy.org/! There were at least 50 street kids blessed there that day!

Here are some of the items purchased so far and efforts to get things back in order. Proverbs 6:31 says about a thief, “But if he is caught, he must pay back seven times what he stole, even if he has to sell everything in his house.” And we all know who the real thief is, so we look forward to a 7 fold return on what’s been stolen from us.

Looking forward!

Just before the robbery we were having wonderful activities take place at the Center, and we look forward to getting back to more of that. We had our kids over for post school term debriefing and scripture memory verse competition, with prizes given to the top 3 memories. 🙂 We had a verse for the street kids as well that they recited out on the street since the Center had been robbed.

We had even started teaching the street kids school work during feeding program and they were enjoying it very much. Since then at least one other street boy has said he wants to go back to school now. January will be a very busy month getting many kids into school. We appreciate your help so much because without it we wouldn’t be able to pay their school fees, as they are a bit expensive in Kenya. Which is why many of them are on the street. Thank you!

We continued feeding program on the street after the break-in and will bring it back inside the facility now. God is great! Thank you so much for helping us help God’s kids have a bright future. Here are some of the activities which were taking place before the break in.

“Give thanks to the Lord Almighty, for the Lord is good;
his love endures forever.” For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the Lord.” Jeremiah 33:11b

We are exceedingly grateful to God for all that He does for us and the street kids in Kenya, and we thank you sincerely for your love and support of the work He is doing there! It’s been an honor to journey with you in 2017! We pray that the new year is filled with heavenly treasures and delight in His presence! God bless you!
